St. Peter’s Church was commissioned by John Deacon of Mabledon and so, after a few years, Southborough was proclaimed an independent ecclesiastical parish. The church was built in 1830, then with a squat tower, facing the Southborough Cricket Club pitch by the renowned architect, Decimus Burton. The addition of the steeple and other changes were made in the second half of the century by another famous architect, Ewan Christian.
