The Royal Victoria Hall was built to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria and was opened on 17th January 1900. The cost of construction was £5,000, £3,000 of which was donated by Sir David Salomons. It was the first municipal theatre to be built in England under the Local Government Act of 1894. A wide range of events are staged each year and the annual pantomime is renowned as always being one of the best in Kent.
